Comares Comares is a municipality in the province of Malaga, located within the boundaries of Montes de Malaga, 703 meters above sea level.
Comares is one of the 31 villages that make up the region of Axarquía. Dista 25 Km de Vélez-Málaga y 39 Km de Málaga capital. It is 25 km away from Velez-Malaga and 39 km from Malaga capital. This town used to be an Arab defensive stronghold up till 1487, when it surrendered to the Christian troops.
The main source of wealth of Comares is the Mazmúllar, el Aljibe, que fue declarado en 1931 Monumento Histórico-Artístico- y la production of oil, wine and harvest of almonds. It is a “must” stop in the oil, wine and raisin route.
You will be able to walk through the maze of streets and find remnants of ancient Arab settlements: the remains of the fortress, the hill of Mazmullar, the Cistern, which was declared a Historic-Artistic monument in 1931, and the Church of “Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación” (XVI century) in Mudejar style.
